The Calgary Branch of the Alberta Registered Music Teachers’ Association recognizes the achievement of exam students in these ways:
1) ARMTA Calgary Recital and Awards (ACRA): This is a recital and award presentation for students in all disciplines. Scholarships are given to students with the three highest marks in each category. Scholarships recipients may be invited to perform at the recital.
2) Outstanding Student Recital (OSR): This recital is for those applicants who are not receiving a scholarship at the ACRA, but their level of achievement is deserving of recognition. A jury panel will award scholarships at the end of this recital. The criteria used to determine scholarship recipients at the OSR include: stage comportment, memorization, interpretation and style, and whether the performance reflects and/or conveys the intent of the composer. The jury panel is comprised of three teachers who do not have students performing and every effort is made to have jurors reflect the different music disciplines.
3) Advanced Theory: Students who have received the highest marks on advanced theory exams (level 9 and higher) are presented with a scholarship at the ACRA.
4) Graduate Ceremony: Held as part of the ACRA, this ceremony acknowledges a student’s completion of the requirements to receive a diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music or from Conservatory Canada. Graduates are invited to attend the recital and each one receives a certificate from ARMTA Calgary recognizing their achievement.
