Recital Policies and Guidelines
Teacher Notes
• Application opens approximately 3 weeks before the recital date and closes approximately 1 week before the recital. The application process is electronic.
• Only applications submitted by current ARMTA Calgary members will be accepted. Applications submitted by the student or parent/guardian will not be accepted.
• The expectation at ARMTA recitals is that participating students have their pieces secure and polished. Please do your best to ensure that students who sign up are ready to meet that standard.
• Each teacher may submit students to a maximum of *12 minutes of performance time (for all students combined). Exceptions could be made for students at level 9 and higher, if time allows.
• The 12 minute max. time restriction does not apply to the students of the Recital Host as long as this does not result in the exclusion of other teachers’ students.
• Performance selections cannot be modified after the application is submitted.
• Performers are accepted on a first-come-first-served basis, if space is available.
• The host will email a list of students accepted to perform to each teacher who applies.
Cancellation
In the following circumstances, the recital may be cancelled. If this occurs, the host will notify all teachers:
• If the total number of participants is less than 15 (or 10-12 for adult recitals).
• If the total playing time is less than 45 minutes EXCEPTION: no-fee venues or online recitals.
Performer Notes
• Students are expected to wear appropriate performance attire.
• Pieces must be performance-ready.
• Memorization is expected wherever possible. If needed, bring music books.
• Everyone is expected stay for the entire program (up to 60 minutes).
• Vocalists and instrumentalists are to provide their own accompanists.
LAST UPDATE: May 2026
Thank you for your time and effort. We look forward to enjoying your students’ pieces, and helping prepare them for exams and/or future performance endeavours.
