Piano Pedagogy Scholarship for ARMTA Calgary members or their students

Morning Musicale was a group of up to twenty ARMTA Calgary Branch members who gathered monthly for 50 years (1972 – 2023) for personal musical and educational advancement with regards to piano teaching and musical points of interest in many musical genres pertaining to teaching and musical development. When they were disbanding, they presented ARMTA Calgary with $5000 to be used for a Piano Pedagogy Scholarship of $250 over the next 20 years”.

Morning Musicale Piano Pedagogy Scholarship ($250)

The donors of this scholarship were all Piano Teachers, and their wish was that the scholarship be given for Piano Pedagogy.

The applicant must have completed one of the following:

  • Conservatory Canada Classical Piano Associate Teacher Diploma (ACCM): Applicant must have completed Practical exam Classical Piano Associate (Teacher), co-requisite theory (Theory 7A, Theory 7B, History 7), and Piano Pedagogy 7. The award will be based on the Piano Pedagogy exam and the section C viva voce of the practical exam.

  • Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM): applicant must have completed all three parts (teaching piano course, interactive (viva voce) exam, and corequisite piano certificate or practical exam). The award will be based on the combined marks received for the “teaching piano course” and the “interactive (viva voce) exam”. Preference will be given to applicants with advanced piano pedagogy. Intermediate piano pedagogy will only qualify when there is no advanced candidate.

    • Advanced Piano Pedagogy including 1 Teaching Advanced Piano Course, 2 Advanced Piano pedagogy Interactive (Viva voce), and 3 Advanced Piano Pedagogy Practical

    • Intermediate Piano Pedagogy including 1Teaching Intermediate Piano Course, 2 Intermediate Piano pedagogy Interactive (Viva voce), and 3 Corequisite level 10 piano Comprehensive Certificate.

    • Piano pedagogy diploma from another recognized musical institution

Where there is more than one exam component required for the certificate or diploma, the last exam must have been completed within the current twelve-month application period.

When the exams were taken, the applicant must have been either:

  • A Member of ARMTA Calgary Branch, or
  • The student of a member of ARMTA Calgary Branch

One award of $250 will be presented at the ACRA (ARMTA Calgary Recital and Awards). The decision of the committee will be final.
