Contest Description
Students of ARMTA Calgary teachers are invited to submit an original movie about *a piece of music or speech arts that they are studying or have recently studied.
* Hereafter referred to as the “ARMTA piece”, which must play a critical role in the movie
Cash Prizes will be awarded!
• First Place: $140
• Second Place: $120
• Third Place: $100
If participation is greater than anticipated, entries will be organized into two age groups and prizes will be doubled!
• One to three random draws of $60 each
General Rules and Regulations
Entry requires:
1) An online application form
2) A signed consent form (must be signed by parent or guardian if the student is under 18)
3) Upload of student’s movie (acceptable file formats: mp4, mv4, mov, wmv, avi, webm, mkv, or flv).
4) Students must be studying with an ARMTA Calgary member in good standing at the time of submission
5) Only one submission per student per competition
6) All entries are expected to be in good taste and inappropriate, obscene or occultist work will be disqualified
Please read and follow all guidelines carefully
To be eligible for a prize, movies must meet these guidelines:
1) The movie must be filmed and/or edited onto video for 2 to 4 minutes
2) The student must give the movie a title (a different title than the ARMTA piece)
3) The movie must contain one or more characters
4) The student must incorporate their ARMTA piece into the story:
a) performing it on camera for at least 30 consecutive seconds.
b) only solo pieces are allowed (soloist, plus accompanist if applicable)
c) original compositions are allowed
5) The opening credits must contain written words, which include (at minimum):
a) The movie title
b) Written and directed by student’s name
c) The subtitle must include the name of the ARMTA piece and it’s composer or author
6) The end credits must contain written words, which include (at minimum):
a) “Special thanks to: name of student’s teacher” and any other contributing collaborators
b) Cast of performers
c) Month and year of production
** Additional Elements:
• Friends, family and/or pets may appear in the movie, as long as verbal consent is given
• Inanimate objects may be given a voice and humanized (i.e. toys, puppets, stuffed animals, dolls)
• Visual and sound effects may be incorporated into the movie
• Computer technology may be used to enhance the production of the movie, while maintaining copyright integrity
• Wardrobe is encouraged (clothing and accessories that support the theme and/or characters)
• Set design in encouraged (the physical environment that supports the theme and/or characters)
Movies will be judged on (but not limited to) the following elements:
• Creativity
• Time Invested
• Quality of ARMTA piece performed
• Cinematography (the art of photography and camerawork in film-making)
• Structure (how the story is told)
• Characters
• Emotional Impact
• Use of Additional Elements **
Winners will be featured in our "Impromptu" newsletter
and winning movies will be published on our website
