History

The Alberta Registered Music Teachers’ Association is a professional organization representing and serving approximately 400 music teachers across the province. The organization began in 1933 as a group of music teachers who were interested in enhancing quality of life by promoting the love and knowledge of music through teaching and by providing cultural events of a high standard in the community. These became our stated goals and objectives when we became a Registered Professional Association in 1982.

ARMTA is affiliated with the national association, the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Associations – Fédération Canadienne des Professeurs de Musique (CFMTA-FCAPM).

There are currently local branches in Calgary, Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Lethbridge, Lloydminster, Medicine Hat, Grand Prairie and Red Deer. ARMTA is managed by the volunteer Provincial Council and administered on a day-to-day basis by the Provincial Secretary/Registrar.

The Calgary Branch of ARMTA has over 170 members from Calgary and the surrounding area. New members are welcome. Visit About Membership for membership criteria, benefits and information about joining ARMTA.

ARMTA is registered under the Societies Act of Alberta.
